What fashion means to me..

Everyone has their own take on fashion and how it is perceived and to me fashion is anything that I find attractive to look at and wear.  I wouldn’t class anything that I don’t find attractive as ’fashion’ because it wouldn’t be something that I wanted to wear. Although, obviously just because if I didn’t see something as fashionable doesn’t mean everyone else doesn’t because we all have different opinions and this is why there are many stereotypes of different groups of people these days.

From high street clothing to high fashion, they’re many ways that it can be expressed. I tend to go for high street fashion because it’s more affordable than the designer things, however it is always nice to treat your self once in a while and go out and buy a designer purchase.

Fashion blogs

I like this blog because the there are images that have been taken in different countries, which show outfits of different cultures so this makes this blog very unique.  It also has a simple layout which I like.

I think this blog is very sophisticated. It keeps to a consistent simple layout which helps you see the images and text clearer.

-Show Me Your Wardrobe (http://www.showmeyourwardrobe.com/)
This blog includes some quite bizarre photos of things that you wouldn't think of and this is why i like it because of the originality. The fashion images on this blog have a lot of clothes that i would want to wear so this is also why i like it.

This is my favourite blog because the girl who owns it is really pretty and she has really good photos on her blog. The clothes that she displays are gorgeous and i would definitely wear them.

-Lydia Elise Millen (http://www.lydiaelisemillen.com/)
This is also one of my favourite blogs because it's so modern and full of outfits that i'd love to wear! I can really relate to this blog because it's so relaxed and the items of clothing displayed aren't over the top or expensive at all.

Exhibition Review :-)

Review of V&A Exhibitions

Abbie Bower

We headed to the Victoria and Albert museum in London to visit the Hollywood Costume and Ball gown exhibitions.

The first exhibition that we went to was the Hollywood Costumes. It brought together over 100 of the most iconic movie costumes from across a century of film-making. It gave us an opportunity to see the clothes worn by unforgettable and beloved characters such as Dorothy Gale, Indiana Jones, Jack Sparrow and Darth Vader. I liked this exhibition because from the simplest of costumes to the more extravagant ones, it consisted of a variety of colours, patterns and materials that they were made from. Although there were many costumes that I recognised from recent films like Superman and Harry Potter, there were also a few that I didn’t know about so this was interesting to find out about the older costumes that the exhibition had.

After viewing the Hollywood costumes we went to the Ball gown exhibition.  The dresses that were on show were elegant and iconic. Some had really nice embroidery parts on them that were very intricate and looked carefully sewn. The variety of dresses were all different lengths, colours and shapes, which made them look unique. There were dresses in this exhibition made by a variety of designers including Alexander McQueen, Erdem and Stella McCartney.

Overall I really liked the two exhibitions that we visited at the Victoria and Albert museum. Also, each dress had its own information plaque listing the name, designer and also what the inspiration was for that particular design. This was good because it helped us get an idea of why a designer chose to create what they did.
